A lifelong resident of Norfolk, she was a daughter of Carey J. and Laura Brown and the widow of James Edward Sawyer. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. A.T. Roth, of Norfolk, Mrs. G.W. Smith, of Portsmouth, Mrs. S.W. Umphlett, of South Norfolk, Mrs. W.E. Doxie, of St. Brides and Miss Laura Sawyer, of Norfolk; four sons, L.C. Sawyer of South Norfolk, L.W. Sawyer, of Norfolk, C.N. Sawyer, of Portsmouth and H.R. Sawyer of Norfolk; a brother, W.E. Brown, of Princess Anne; 29 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The body was taken to the Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk, where services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
