The Virginian Pilot Friday May 3, 1964
Mrs. Mary Lewis Dalby Sawyer, 82, of 719 Michigan Ave., widow of Judge Ernest 
L. Sawyer, died Thursday at 7:30 a.m. in her home.
For many years her husband was a justice of the peace with offices across from 
the old Norfolk Courthouse and was judge of elections until his death seven 
years ago.
Born in Palmyra, Md., she was a daughter of the Rev. John and Mrs. Anna Dalby. 
Her father served churches in Norfolk Methodist District.
Mrs. Sawyer was one of the oldest members of Park Place Methodist Church and 
formerly served on its Wesleyan Guild Advisory Committee, Woman's Society of 
Christian Service, Laura Fenn Bible Class, and various other commissions and 
committees. She also served on auxiliary committees of the Methodist Children's 
Home, Richmond.
Surviving are nephews and nieces.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to Park 
Place Methodist Church. 
The body was taken to Derry-Twiford Funeral Home.
