He was a successful farmer near Fentress, Norfolk County and later built his home on Indian River Road, moving to Campostella Heights where he has since resided. He was a very active church worker, a member of the Bethesda Methodist Church, and he became a charter member of the Campostella Methodist Church, where he taught the church Bible class. He was a native of Camden County, N.C., a son of the late Archie and Mrs. Charlotte Sammons Sawyer and husband of the late Emma E. Sawyer. Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. W.F. Hodges and Mrs. J.E. Chappelle, of Norfolk and Mrs. J.T. Miller of Wilmington N.C.; three sons, L.J. Sawyer and Fletcher L. Sawyer, of Norfolk, and Wilson T. Sawyer of Virginia Beach; 26 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The body was removed to the Sykes Funeral Home, 125 East Berkley avenue. Funeral Services will be conducted in the Campostella Methodist Church tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock by the pastor, the Rev. R.I. Williams. Internment will be in Riverside Memorial Park.
