Norfolk - Funeral services for Willie Sawyer Sr., of 1225 Mapole avenue, who 
died July 12 in a hospital were held Saturday in Mason Memorial Church of God in 
Christ.  Bishop D. Lawrence Williams delivered the eulogy.  Burial was in Mt. 
Olive Cemetery with Jones Funeral Home in charge.

The Norfolk native was the son of the late Edward Sawyer and Mrs. Harriet Sawyer 
and the husband of Mrs. Corrine Sawyer.  Mr. Sawyer was retired from Norfolk 
Naval Base, and a deacon at Mason Memorial.

His survivors include five sons, Robert Lee Johnson of Richmond, Willie Sawyer 
Jr. and George F. Sawyer of Norfolk, and Zorrine E. Sawyer and Nathaniel Sawyer, 
four daughters, Mrs. Edith Johnson, Mrs. Lilly Elliott and Miss Rosa Sawyer of 
Norfolk, and Mrs. Mary Mabery of Philadelphia;  and 17 grandchildren.
