Vincent or “Little Vince” as he was known by his family, was a blessing to anyone who knew him. He would be a friend and give hugs to anyone, a retail clerk or doctor, whether you were old, young, poor or rich. He had only acceptance and love for all, no prejudice or judgment. Born in Norfolk, VA, Vincent was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Scalco. Later on and for most of his adult life he was cared for with unending devotion and love by his sister, Bettie Snyder. Bettie was Vincent’s second mother in all that she did for him. Also, John Malinowski was Vincent’s caregiver and like a father to him. Thank you to all the doctors and nurses that treated Vincent at the hospital. The family is grateful for your tender care. Besides his sister, Vincent is survived by a brother, Gene V. Scalco of California; two nephews, Robert Cash of Alabama and Vincent Cash of Virginia; many grand nieces and nephews; aunt and uncle Maybelle and Joseph Scalco, who were especially dear to him. A special thank you to Dr. Katherine Law, nurses Janice and Sallie, and all the others at Providence Road Family Practice who showed him so much love. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 28, 2005, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Cemetery by Pastor Jonathan Carpenter. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Vincent J. Scalco, Jr. Scholarship Fund, Providence Christian Church, 501 Providence Rd., Chesapeake, VA 23325.
