NORFOLK - Adrienne D. Schellings, 86, died Feb. 12, 2005, at DePaul Medical 
Center.

Born Adrienne Donneaud in Manhattan, N.Y., she moved to Norfolk in 1960, and had 
called Norfolk home ever since. She was the widow of Dr. William J. Schellings, 
professor of history at Old Dominion University.

Mrs. Schellings received her bachelor's degree in French in l962 from ODU and her 
Master's in library service in 1965 from Rutgers University. She joined the 
library staff at ODU in 1965 and, in 1966, was promoted to the head of the 
acquisitions department. She was awarded tenure and the status of associate 
professor in 1976. She served as interim director of the library from July to 
December 1976. For her 17 years of service and her role in the development and 
growth of the acquisitions department, the ODU Library and the University as a 
whole, she was granted the honorary status of Associate Professor Emeritus of 
Library Science.

Mrs. Schellings is survived by her son, Richard Schellings, of Norfolk; her 
sister, Muriel Charton, of Norfolk; a daughterin-law, Carol Schellings; and a 
granddaughter and grandson.

A graveside service will be conducted today at 3 p.m., at St. Mary's Catholic 
Cemetery on Granby Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to 
the ODU Library Scholarship Fund, the Virginia Zoo or to a charity of your choice. 
H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
