Mr. Schmitt was a native of Woodlawn, Long Island, N.Y., and a resident of Norfolk for the past 27 years, residing at 210 East Thirteenth Street at the time of his death. Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Barbara Tuefel Schmitt, of New York; four sisters, Mrs. Catherine Cole, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Mrs. Dorothy Kearney, of Ozone Park, Long Island, N.Y.; Mrs. Elizabeth Mickle, of New Jersey and Miss Rose Schmitt, of Long Island and two brothers, Peter Schmitt, of Brooklyn and Frank Schmitt of New Jersey. Funeral services will be held at the chapel of the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, Thursday at 12 o'clock noon. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. **************************************************************************** GEORGE PETER SCHMITT — Funeral services for Mr. Schmitt, who died Tuesday at the U. S. Naval Hospi­tal, Portsmouth, were held yesterday at noon at the chapel of the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial avenue, with the Rev. Peter Schoutten, of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiating. There was a large attendance and many floral offerings. The casket was covered with an American flag. Interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery, with military honors. A volley was fired by a firing squad and a bugler sounded “taps” at the grave. The pallbearers were A. L. Denofa, Tony Pennello, Frank Senick, William Hayhurst, M. Ban­non and Harold Lloyd.
