VIRGINIA BEACH – Joseph Sciortino, of the 4300 block of Sandy Bay Drive, a 
retired lawyer, died Jan. 20, 1989, in a hospital.
Mr. Sciortino, a native of Italy, had retired from the New York State 
Unemployment Department after 25 years. He was a Eucharistic minister at St. 
Pius X Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Sciortino; a daughter, Maria Barry of Norfolk; 
three sons, Joseph E. Sciortino of Plandome, N.Y., William R. Sciortino of 
Oceanside, N.Y. and Benedict J. Scoirtino of New York City; a brother, Terry 
Sciortino of Virginia Beach; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Pius X Catholic Church by 
the Rev. Anthony Rodrigues. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. 
Friends may join the family from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today in 
Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, where a Christian wake service will 
be held at 2 p.m. today.
Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of St. Pius X Catholic 
Church.
