The Virginian Pilot and Norfolk Landmark Tuesday May 2, 1933


Mrs. Mary Ellen Sedgwick, aged 63, widow of Charles C. Sedgwick, died at the 
residence of her son, J.C. Sedgwick, 341 Scotland Street, Williamsburg, 
yesterday morning at 2:50 o’clock. Besides her son, she is survived by a 
sister, Mrs. M.B. Sykes, of Norfolk; a brother, Arthur J. Murphy, of 
Atlanta, Ga.; a granddaughter, Miss Dorcas Amelia Sedgwick, and four nieces, 
Gertrude, Margaret and Gwendolyn Carroll. Mrs. Sedgwick was a native of 
North Carolina and had been a resident of Norfolk for many years and was 
visiting her son when she was taken ill. She was a charter member of the 
Church of the Epiphany.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home 
tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
