She was surrounded by her family and friends. A lifelong resident of Norfolk, Nancy was the daughter of Ruth Dixon Beaman and Albert Graham Beaman. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Samuel Barron Segar Jr.; her three children, Anne Segar Hastings and husband Paul of Norfolk, Samuel Barron Segar III of Atlanta and Michaux Segar Parsons and husband Jimmy of Norfolk; her three grandchildren, Katharine Baird Hastings, Paul Graham Hastings and James Argent Parsons Jr.; and her sisters, Katherine Beaman Gill of Richmond and Marie Beaman Chipman and husband Bill of Virginia Beach. Nancy was a graduate of Granby High School in Norfolk, Randolph-Macon Womans College in Lynchburg, Va., and she continued her education abroad in Paris, France. Nancy Segar dedicated many years of her life to community service. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd for 55 years where she served on the Altar Guild and was a member of the Vestry. She was honored to be the first female Junior Warden of the Church. Among her many community activities, Nancy served as president of the Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach and was a member of The Planning Council. She was also a founding member and former president of the Ruth Sargent Circle of the Childrens Hospital of The Kings Daughters and additionally, she served on the board of the Childrens Hospital of The Kings Daughters. She was also chairman of the Annual Holly Ball. As an avid gardener, Nancy served as president of the Redwood Garden Club. Nancy was a devoted wife and mother. She had many friends, was loved by all and will be greatly missed. A private burial will take place preceding a celebration of Nancys life at 11 a.m. Monday at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 7400 Hampton Blvd., Norfolk, by the Rt. Rev. C. Charles Vache, interim rector.
