Selden, 86, of 717 C avenue were conducted Jan. 28 in First Baptist Church, Bute Street, with the Rev. E. Paul Simms officiating. Mr. Selden died Jan. 24 after a short illness. He was retired from Norfolk Naval Base. He was amember of First Baptist Church, Bute Street, Deacon Board, Big Brotherhood Bible Class, and Progressive League and treasurer of Grand United Order of Odd Fellows. He was a member of National Association of Retired Civil Employees 5, YMCA and National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. A native of Norfolk, he was a son of James H. and Mrs. Margaret Jones Selden and the husband of the late Mrs. Mary Branch Selden. Surviving are a son, William L. Selden Jr., of Norfolk; two daughters, Mrs. Velma S. Ellis of New York and Mrs Mary S. Long of Norfolk; two sisters, Mrs. Katie S. Gatling of Norfolk and Miss Nettie Selden of Norfolk; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery with B. F. King Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
