Selden were conducted Monday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church by the Rev. E. Paul Simms, pastor. He died Thursday, Jan. 8 at his residence, 722 Goff street after a long illness at the age of 80. A retired worker of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard having been employed there for 40 years, Mr. Selden was a veteran of the Spanish-American War, member of the Children of Israel Lodge, and a member of the First Baptist Church for 61 years. His wife Mrs. Mary M. Selden survives him along with three daughters, Mrs. Margaret S. Reed. Mrs. Ella S. Holder, and Mrs Blanch S. Black; six sons, James, Paul, Joseph, Lawrence, Thomas and Daniel Selden; three sisters, Mrs. Katie S. Gatling, Mrs. Mattie S. Martin and Miss Nettie Selden; one brother, William L. Selden, all of Norfolk, 32 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with Hale and Company in charge of arrangements.
