Sexton, one of the best known and most highly esteemed citizens of Berkley, age 67 years, died yesterday morning at 7:45 o'clock at his residence, 408 Patrick street, after a long illness, having suffered three strokes of paralysis. Mr. Sexton was born in Pasquotank County, N.C., but had been a resident of this city for 31 years. He was, for a long time, engaged in the lumber business, but retired from active life several years ago on account of ill health. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Carlton H. Sexton, residing in Texas and Artie P. Sexton, U.S.A. and one daughter, Mrs. Moody Johnson, of this place. Mr. Sexton was a member of the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church and also of Thomas Jefferson Council, 16, Order of Fraternal Americans. Sexton, who died at his home, No. 408 Patrick street, Wednesday morning, will be conducted at the Berkley Avenue Baptist Church this afternoon at 3 o'clock by Rev. W.M. Black, pastor of the South Norfolk Baptist Church. Burial will be in the family lot in Magnolia Cemetery. Carlton H. Sexton and wife have arrived from Texas to attend the funeral. Thomas Jefferson Council, No. 16, Order of Fraternal Americans, have been called out to attend the funeral in a body.
