Mrs. Hazel Inez Robinson Shafer of 3103 Carney St., the widow of Garfield 

Shafer, died Thursday at 4:45 a.m. in her home.

A native of Norfolk, she lived here five years. She was a charter member of 

Larchmont United Methodist Church, Norfolk.

Survivors include a son, Garfield Shafer Jr., and two granddaughters, Mrs. Mary 

Meeks and Mrs. Sara Hetzler, all of Portsmouth; and four great-grandsons.

A private funeral will be held today in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, by the Rev. 

Kenneth Whetzel. Foster Funeral Home has charge. The family has requested that 

flowers be omitted..
