H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments  September, 2022
George Leo Shalhoup, 82, passed away on Wed., Aug. 31, 2022. George was born on 
Oct. 28, 1939, in Norfolk, VA, to Leo E. Shalhoup and Georgia Gretes. He attended 
Sacred Heart School, Norfolk Catholic High School, and UVA. He proudly served in 
the U.S. Army. He owned and operated The Little Italy Restaurant, The Alpine Room, 
and The Trolley Restaurant.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara. His brothers, Anthony P. Shalhoup 
(Monilee), and Leo E. Shalhoup Jr. (Linda). His seven daughters: Nelbie Devall, 
Georgette Shalhoup (Jen), Toni Shalhoup (Wayne), Suzannah Shalhoup, Teresa 
Fitzpatrick (Jody), Angela Shalhoup (Bobby) and Leona Mitchell (Gary). Seven 
grandchildren: Christina, Dalton (Natalia), Demi (Conner), Caroline, Elizabeth, 
Erin, and Joseph. Three great-grandchildren: Hunter, Tatum, and Beckham. His 
Godson: Joey Falletta. His lifelong friends Ernie Gargano (Sandra), Joe Falletta 
(Fran), Rusty Fentress (Nancy), and Donald Sullivan (Faith).
A visitation will occur at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., 1501 Colonial Ave. in 
Norfolk from 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5th. A prayer service will take place on 
Tues., Sept 6th at 11 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a graveside service at 
St. Mary’s Cemetery. A reception will follow at St. Matthew’s Church assembly 
hall, 3314 Sandra Lane, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, please do a kind deed 
for someone.
If you measure a man’s success by how much his children loved him, then he was the 
most successful man ever! Thanks Dad, for everything!
