He was a machinist at Ft. Story until retirement five years ago. He was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church. A native of Roanoke, he was a son of Clarence E. and Mrs. Eleanor O’Brien Shank. He lived in Virginia Beach six years. Besides his widow, surviving are three sons, James C. Shank Jr. and Robert P. Shank of Norfolk and David L. Shank of Virginia Beach: four daughters, Mrs. C. G. Mason of Norfolk, Mrs. H. C. Smith and Mrs. J. S. Majewski of Virginia Beach, and Sister Damien Shank of Central Africa; two brothers, Charles A. Shank and W. R. Shank of Roanoke; four sisters, Mrs. Marie Herley and Mrs. Claude Cosby of Roanoke, Mrs. Edgar Sheehan of Landsdown, Pa., and Miss Katherine Shank of Arlington, and 11 grandchildren. The body was taken to Maestas Funeral Home, Virginia Beach. A funeral service will be conducted in Star of the Sea Catholic Church Wednesday at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Nicholas J. Habets. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Norfolk. The rosary will be recited in the funeral home tonight at 8.
