James "Jim" E. Shaw, 90, recently of E. Ocean View Avenue, passed away January 7, 
2021 at home surrounded by his family overlooking his beloved Chesapeake Bay in 
Ocean View.

A native and lifelong resident of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Francis and 
Elsie Shaw. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Katherine "Kit" F. Shaw 
(53 years) and brother Frank B. Shaw and Frank's wife Vera Fitzpatrick Shaw as 
well as a son, Neal Shaw, who died at birth and daughters in law Valerie Lindquist 
Shaw (Kevin's wife) and Cheryl Wilson Shaw (Darby's wife).

He is survived by his 4 devoted sons, Kevin, Darby (Karen), Mick (Kathy) and Teig 
(Melissa), 7 loving grandchildren (and spouses), and 11 wonderful 
greatgrandchildren, a stepsister, Linnea Blossei Sams as well as a host of 
extended family and dear friends including a very cherished companion and dear 
friend, Gloria Carter.

Jim was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School and attended the Norfolk Division 
of the College of William & Mary and retired from the Department of the Navy in 
the Financial Administration in 1995. Jim was a dedicated Civil Servant and took 
his job very seriously and always bristled at any disparaging depiction of 
"Government Workers." He rarely if ever even took a sick day and loved his job and 
was widely recognized as the go-to-guy on Naval budget issues for the Sinclant 
Fleet!

He was an active and devoted member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and School for 
more than 65 years before recently returning to Holy Trinity Catholic Church where 
he was also baptized as a child and where he was married and where he chose to 
have his final Burial Mass. He served in multiple capacities at St. Pius X 
including the Finance Council where he served with many good friends including 
Donald Grey, Rick Mapp and the late Dr. Vince Cornetta and Bob Hutcheson. He was 
also an Usher for many years, a mainstay for decades on the right side of the 
Church.

Born in a home in the 100 block of West Bay Avenue in Pamlico in 1930, He loved 
Ocean View and lived in Ocean View until getting married. He then lived in the 
Wedgewood subdivision for over 65 years and cherished all his neighbors, but the 
family particularly wishes to extend their special thanks to Kim Moran for her 
watchful and caring eye toward Dad and his home in his later years. He served his 
Community and was active in the Roosevelt Area Civic League for decades and was 
appointed by Governors George Allen and Bob McDonnell to serve as both Chairman 
and Secretary of the Norfolk Electoral Board. He was a Charter member of the 
Knights of Columbus Father Kealey Council #3548 in Ocean View and later moved his 
membership to Council #367, the oldest and longest serving Council in the South. 
He was so proud of the many service projects his brother Knights undertook and 
joined them frequently at silent Prayer Vigils for the Unborn respectfully outside 
Planned Parenthood facilities. He was a dedicated brother Knight for over 68 
years!

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Norfolk on 
Friday, January 15th at 12 Noon on Government Avenue in Ocean View. A Christian 
Wake service will be held Thursday evening at the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver 
Funeral Apts. (Colonial Avenue in Ghent) at 6P.M. followed by a visitation with 
the family. Both services will be open to the public and visitors must wear 
facemasks and practice social distancing. Both services will also be live streamed

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Right To Life 
Society or to the Holy Trinity Building Fund, "Upon This Rock". Online condolences
