The pupils of St. Mary’s were given a holiday today, so their teachers could attend the funeral of the faithful old negress. "Hannah" was known to many of Norfolk’s best-known citizens ten, fifteen, and twenty years ago when they were pupils at St. Mary’s Academy. Many’s the time Hannah would give a hungry pupil a hot biscuit or hot roll and many little gifts came her way from boys who appreciated her kindness. Hannah had a remarkable memory. One young citizen who had not seen Hannah in sixteen years, happened to meet her several months ago. She recognized him instantly and told him little incidents that are the best memories of his school days. Hannah will be buried today. She was paralyzed some time ago and lingered until Tuesday. Hannah was a faithful old darkey, and with it all she was a religious. She has gone to claim her reward.
