Norfolk Virginian Pilot Tuesday February 6, 1940
John M. Shepherd, aged 70, died at a local hospital last night at 7:05 o'clock 
after a short illness. He was the son of M.L. and Mrs. Sarah Shepherd, was a 
native of Memphis, Tenn., and had been a resident of Norfolk three years. 
Surviving him are three daughters, Mrs. Katie F. Pounders, of Eudora, Miss., 
and Mrs. D.B. Broadhurst and Mrs. W.C. Wolfe, of Norfolk; four sons, Charles, 
Clarence and Franklin Shepherd of Memphis and Marcus Shepherd, of Honolulu, 
and 11 grandchildren. The body was removed to the funeral chapel of James V. 
Derry, Colley and Harrington avenues, pending funeral arrangements.
