Wilson Eliot Driver Shepherd, 83, slipped away at home in 
Lexington, on Monday, May 7, 2012. He was born in Shanghai, China, 
on June 8, 1928, to the late General Lemuel C. Shepherd Jr. USMC 
and Virginia Driver Shepherd, of Norfolk, Va. 
He spent his childhood on Marine Corps bases in Haiti, Quantico, 
Newport, R.I. Alumnus Episcopal High School, Alexandria, Va., Class 
of 1946, and Virginia Military Institute, 1950 BKA fraternity. 
Wilson married Lola Steele, of Washington, D.C., before shipping 
out to Korea as a reserve rifle platoon 1st Lt., and A Co. 1st Bn 
5th Regt, 1st Mar Div. Commanded Marine detachment on the USS 
Ticonderoga. 
Upon discharge, the Shepherds moved to San Diego. He earned a 
second degree from the University of San Diego, and worked at Solar 
Turbines until his retirement to Lexington in 1994. 
He was a tennis player, backpacker, equestrian, and former member 
of the Rockbridge Hunt and Back Country Horsemen. 
Survivors besides his wife include his daughters, Sallie and 
Virginia Shepherd, of Richmond; and two grandchildren. 
Burial to be held in Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk. In lieu of 
flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to VMI 
Foundation, Rockbridge Hospice or The Yosemite Fund.
