Virginian Pilot September 26, 1985

Thelma J. Sheppard of 806 Wide St., a native of Southampton County and the 
widow of Walter A. Sheppard, died Monday in a hospital.
Mrs. Sheppard was a member of Holy Temple United Holy Church and its Senior 
Choir and Senior Missionary Society.  She served as a mother of the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Raigns and Frances Wilber, both of 
Norfolk; a son, Walter A. Sheppard Jr. of Suffolk; two sisters, Virginia A. 
Joyner of Norfolk and Ellen J. Holland of Suffolk; 17 grandchildren; and 20 
great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Holy Temple United Holy 
Church by Bishop S.E. Pugh.  Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Elton Funeral Home.  The 
family will be at 877 Bagnall Road.
