Kristina was born on October 2, 1985, in Newport News, Virginia to Lewis Sherman and Barbara Sherman (now Barbara Stermer Williams, deceased). She graduated from Lafayette High School in Williamsburg and lived in the Hampton Roads area her entire life. As a young girl, Kristina loved ballet. She danced as an extra with several ballet companies. As an adult, she had a passion for writing and painting and was a lifelong lover of books. She had a special place in her heart for anything related to animals, Christmas, Harry Potter, or Star Wars, and she loved sharing this joy with those around her. She was a Christian. As youth she was a member of Hickory Episcopal Church near Williamsburg Virginia, and a member of Calvary Chapel in Virginia Beach for many years. Kristina was born with a serious heart condition, and at age 9 she underwent a heart transplant. She had several significant complications related to this procedure that resulted in a need for a second heart transplant and lifelong disabilities. Despite these challenges, Kristina refused to let her disabilities keep her from anything. She lived in her own apartment with amazing support from the Hope House Foundation. She traveled widely, including to the U.S. Virgin Islands, Zion National Park in Utah, California, and Florida. She was an active member of Beacon House, a day program for people with brain injuries, and she participated in organized advocacy seeking more resources to support people living with disabilities living as independently as possible. In addition to her father, her sister, Jessica Sherman; her grandfather, Robert Stermer, Jr; her uncle, Robert Stermer, III; her aunt, Delores Washburn; and a loving extended family that she touched deeply survive Kristina. She will be greatly missed by her family, her friends from Beacon House, and the amazing teams that supported her over the years at Hope House, many of whom became Kristina's lifelong friends. A small memorial service is planned, but may be limited due to COVID 19 restrictions, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, in Norfolk on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 11 a.m. Calvary Chapel Pastor Thomas Powell will lead the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Hope House Foundation, which supported Kristina for many years. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
