Norfolk Journal and Guide, Dec 23,1961
Mrs. Hattie Shields, of 1263 Dusch avenue, recently was given a funeral service 
at Garrett’s Community Church, with the Rev. James A. Askew officiating.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery under direction of Hale Funeral Home.

A native of Martin county, NC, Mrs. Shields lived in Norfolk two and a half 
years.  She was a member of Long Chapel Baptist Church and its Missionary 
Society.

Survivors include a son, Robert Shields of Coudersport, PA;  a daughter, Mrs. 
Gracie Portlock of Norfolk;  six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
