Norfolk - Funeral rites for Joseph Shields of 1815 Claiborne avenue were
conducted April 6 in Hale Funeral Chapel. The Rev. J. L. Kearney officiated.

A native of Norfolk, he died April 2. He was the husband of Mrs. Rosa Shields
and a son of Willie Shields and the late Mrs. Pearl Shields. He was a janitor at
the Public Safety Building.


Besides his wife and father, surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Hill of
Norfolk; two brothers, George Shields of New York, and Jacob Shields of Norfolk;
and a sister, Mrs. Rosa S. Jackson of Norfolk.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.
