Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, September 26, 1996 
Vincent Warren Shields Jr., of the 1100 block of Chapel St., died Sept. 23,
1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

A native of Norfolk, he was a retired merchant seaman with Military Sealift
Command. He was a Baptist and a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Shields; a daughter, April Merritt Butler of
Rhode Island; a stepdaughter, Tonya Bellamy of Norfolk; a son, Vincent Warren
Shields III; his father, Vincent W. Shields Sr. of Norfolk; a stepson, Dean
Bellamy of Portsmouth; a brother, Theodore Cowell of Norfolk; two grandchildren;
and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Friday by Bishop Anthony Moses in Carlos A.
Howard Funeral Home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The remains will be
ready for viewing today from 3 to 8 p.m. The family will assemble at the funeral
home at 11:45 a.m.
