The deceased was a soldier in the Crimean war, waged 1853-1856 between Russia and the allied forces of Turkey, France, Great Britain and Sardinia, and the war of 1861-1865. He did service on the Merrimac and at Roanoke Island, N.C. and was in other engagements, but fortunately came out without a wound. He was born in Manchester, England and leaves three daughters and a son. He was a member of Norfolk Lodge No. 1, A.F. & A.M. The funeral will be conducted from the family residence this morning at 11 o'clock, after which the interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
