The Norfolk Virginian Pilot June 4, 1940


Walter L. Shumadine, aged 81, died suddenly at his residence on the Ironmonger 
Road yesterday morning at 11:45 o’clock. He was the son of F.B. and Mrs. 
Elizabeth Wood Shumadine, and a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk County. 
Surviving him are two brothers, A.J. and C.T. Shumadine, and a sister, Mrs. 
Ella D. Vanderberry, of Norfolk, and a son Russell V. Shumadine.
The body was removed to the funeral chapel of James V. Derry, Colley and 
Harrington Avenues, pending funeral arrangements.
