SILVESTER DIES IN BALTIMORE Was Native of Norfolk And Head Of Maryland Agricultural College Many Years Baltimore, Dec. 31- Richard William Silvester, for twenty years president of the Maryland Agricultural College until his retirement two years ago, on account of ill health, died here today. He was 59 years old and a native of Norfolk. _____________________ News of Mr. Silvester's death was received here, where he has many friends and relatives, with widespread regret. He was a prominent educator, having been in educational work for nearly thirty years, the greater part of the time as president of Maryland Agricultural College. He was placed at the head of this institution at an exceptionally early age. After graduating from Virginia Military Institute, he taught for five years at Charlotte Hall Military Academy in Maryland. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucy Bowen Silvester and a daughter, Miss Virginia Silvester of Aquasco, Md.; a son, Dr. R.L. Silvester of Baltimore; three sisters, Misses Jane B. and Margaret Genevieve Silvester of Washington, D.C. and Mrs. John Draper of Havana, Cuba; a brother, L.M. Silvester of Portsmouth; two nephews, E.L. and Dr. W. W. Silvester and a niece, Mrs. W.T. McDonald, of Norfolk. Funeral arrangements are incomplete, but it is thought his body will be brought here for burial. ******************************************************************************* The funeral of Richard William Silvester will take place privately at Elmwood Cemetery this morning at 9 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. A.C. Thompson, of Trinity P.E. Church, Portsmouth. Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark January 2, 1917 ************************************************************************* The funeral of Richard William Silvester took place yesterday in Elmwood Cemetery conducted by Rev. A.C. Thompson, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Portsmouth, and was largely attended. There were many floral tributes. The body arrived yesterday morning by the Chesapeake line from Baltimore, accompanied by members of his family and Professors Spence, Symonds and Harrison, members of the faculty of Maryland Agricultural College, of which Mr. Silvester was president emeritus. The pallbearers were R.C. Taylor, Jr., Frank Lindsay, Walter H. Taylor, D.W. Lindsay, Professors Symonds, Harrison and Spence and W.W. Galt.
