(Dick) Simmons, 86, of 1200 Redgate Ave., Apt. C1 retired theatrical stage manager and a native of Norfolk, died Wednesday in a hospital. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Virginia Simmons and was a Methodist. He had been president of the Theatrical Stage Employes Local 72. He was an Army veteran of World War I, member of American Legion Post 204, the 29th Division Association Post 5, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 021, Ocean View Democratic and Social Club and honorary life member of Norfolk Elks Lodge 38. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Georgie S. Lee of Norfolk and Mrs. Eva S. West of Sarasota, Fla.; and a brother, Leonard D. Simmons of New Orleans. A funeral will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Twiford Funeral Home Chapel, Colley Avenue, by the Rev. David Howell of Ghent United Methodist Church. Burial, with Elks rites, will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
