William Rayfield ``Shorty'' Simmons, 73, of the 900 block of Scott St., a 
retired truck driver, died March 23, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. 

Mr. Simmons was born in Norfolk County, son of the late Betty and Charles 
Simmons. He was retired from Capital Cement Co. after 15 years. He was a member 
of Mount Carmel Baptist Church, the Trustee Board and Male Usher Board. 

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara T. Wright; two sons, Donald Washington and 
Charles Simmons; and a sister, Christine Brown, all of Norfolk; one grandchild 
and one great-grandchild. 

A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in Mount Carmel Baptist Church by the 
Rev. Clarence V. Russell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . A wake will be 
held Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Hale Funeral Home. The family will 
assemble at 6367 Glenoak Drive.
