Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark January 28, 1918

Jefferson Davis Simmons, retired Coast Guard of the Cape Henry life saving 
station, died suddenly at a local hospital yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.  
He is survived by his wife, four sons, Dennis M., Noah W., Phillip J. and Lewis W. 
Simmons; and by two daughters, Misses Lillie and Laura Simmons, all of Portsmouth. 

He also leaves four brothers, Philmore, Cassius, Lee and Thomas Simmons and a 
sister, Mrs. Sarah White, all of Princess Anne County.  The funeral will take 
place tomorrow afternoon at 1 o'clock at H.C. Smith's funeral apartments, 306-308 
Bank Street and interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
