He is William Richard Simmons, 36, of 892 Norview Ave. He was an oiler aboard the ship. Simmons signed aboard the freighter as an oiler in February. The ship loaded grain for Russia in Norfolk and sailed for Odessa March 2. The Smith Voyager left Odessa March 25, after discharging her cargo. Word reached the ship’s owners, Earl J. Smith & Co., of New York, Thursday that Simmons was missing. How he disappeared was not immediately known. The ship retraced its course for several hours after Simmons was missed, but there was no sign of him. The vessel is due in New Orleans April 15. Simmons is unmarried. His mother is Mrs. Clara Arner of 892 Norview Ave. He has two brothers, Ronald and Carl Simmons, who live in Virginia Beach.
