Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Saturday, October 11, 2003 
NORFOLK - Robert G. ``Bob'' Simmons of the 700 block of B Ave., and formerly of
the 900 block of Marietta Ave., died Oct. 6, 2003, in his residence.

Born in Norfolk, he retired as a planning engineer for C&P Telephone Co., was a
former telecommunication engineer for Stromberg Carlson Co., Rochester, N.Y.,
and was a substitute teacher for the City of Virginia Beach. Mr. Simmons was a
member of Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception, International
Toastmasters, Electrical Engineers International Association, the Armed Forces
Communications and Electronic Association and Omega Psi Phi fraternity. He was
educated at Shaw University and served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Claudette Simmons; his mother, Arvetta Phillips of
Norfolk; a sister, Anna Simmons and a brother, Arthur R. Simmons, both of
Chesapeake; an aunt, Alma Young; a host of other relatives and friends including
Delores Fallias and Cynthia Crawford, both of Orlando, Fla.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in Basilica of St. Mary of the
Immaculate Conception by the Rev. Ernest Bulinda. Burial will be in Calvary
Cemetery . The remains will be ready for viewing Sunday from 3:30 to 8 p.m. The
family will assemble for the procession at 11 a.m. at Carlos A. Howard Funeral
