A. SIMMONS Rector Fenchurch Street Public School Typhoid Fever Ends His Useful Career - Forty Years Connected With Norfolk's Public Schools - His Life - Funeral Notice - The Children's Respect Mr. William A. Simmons died Sunday evening at 7:30 o'clock at his home on Church Street, aged 45 years. Mr. Simmons about three weeks ago was taken extremely ill with pneumonia and so severe was the attack that from the first his life was considered in extreme danger. Surrounded by a devoted family, who had at their call a host of deeply attached friends, all that medical skill could do was of no avail. Mr. Simmons died as he had lived a consistent member of the Cumberland Street Methodist Church and a faithful officer of the Sunday school. He was an instructor who loved his avocation and for twenty-five years had been a teacher in the Norfolk public schools and for several years past, the rector of the Fenchurch Street School. He was born in this city and at an early age entered the school of the late M.B. Rodman, where he was distinguished as a hard student and bright scholar. When he reached young manhood he was sent to Columbia College, Washington, D.C., where he graduated with high honors. He returned home with his fairly won laurels and was appointed a teacher in the public schools and teaching has been his life work. How well he has succeeded hundreds of young business men are ready to testify. The deceased was a son of Mr. James Simmons and is survived by his father, wife and child and several brothers. Yesterday his room in the Fenchurch Street building was draped in emblems of mourning. The funeral will take place from the Cumberland Street Methodist Church this afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. ****************************************************************************** SIMMONS - At his residence, No. 159 Church Street, Sunday, October 28th, 1894, at 7 o'clock p.m., WILLIAMSON A.
