Mrs. Simpson, 83, Dies in Hospital

Mrs. Johnne Mabyn Branch Simpson, 83, widow of John Calhoun Simpson, died 
Wednesday at 4:10 a.m. in a Norfolk hospital after a three-month illness
She was the mother of Dr. Grellet C. Simpson, chancellor of Mary Washington 
College.
A native of Brunswick County, she had lived in Norfolk, 60 years, lately at 
5336 Edgewater Dr., home of her daughter. She was a graduate of the Farmville 
Normal School, class of 1894, and recently attended the 65th reunion.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Virginia S. Robertson of Norfolk, Mrs. 
Mabyn S. Smith and Mrs. Helen S. Tull, both of Salisbury, Md.; one son, Dr. 
Simpson of Fredericksburg; three step-grandchildren, 14 grandchildren and four 
great-grandchildren.
The body will be taken from Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home in Memorial Methodist 
Church, of which she was a member, for a funeral service Friday at 2 p.m. 
Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
