The Norfolk Virginian Pilot September 9, 1953
John Randolph Simpson, 89, died at a Virginia Beach hospital yesterday at 
6:50 p.m. after an illness of nine weeks.  He was the son of the late 
William Washington and Mrs. Rebecca Yealdhall Simpson.
Besides his wife, Mrs. Edna McCombs Simpson, he is survived by two sons, W. 
Clyde Simpson, Sr., of Pine Bluff, N.C., and Granville B. Simpson, of 
Norfolk County; three daughters, Mrs. Rufus S. Knight and Mrs. R.W. Sturgis, 
of Norfolk; and Mrs. F. W. Youry, of Alexandria; 12 grandchildren; 14 great 
grandchildren; two stepsons, Robert R. and John W. McCombs, both of Virginia 
Beach.
Mr. Simpson was born in Norfolk County September 19, 1864, and had resided 
in this section all his life.  For the past 31 years he had lived at 
Virginia Beach, where he was a member of the Virginia Beach Methodist 
Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Cox Funeral Home tomorrow at 2 
p.m. by the Rev. Graham S. Carlton, pastor of the Virginia Beach Methodist 
Church.  Burial will be in the family plot in Elmwood Cemetery.
