VIRGINIA BEACH—Joseph Maurice Simpson Sr., 65, of 513 Piney Branch Drive, died 
Saturday in a local hospital. He was the husband of Gertrude Belli Simpson and a 
native of Philadelphia, Pa.

He was retired from the Army after 20 years as a sergeant first class and was a 
member of Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church.

Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth J. Murphy and Miss Julia Ann 
Simpson of Virginia Beach; a son, Joseph Maurice Simpson Jr. of Lumberton, N.C.; 
two sisters, Mrs. Edith Rosiolo of Sewell, N.J., and Miss Kathryn Simpson of 
Camden, N.J.; and five grandchildren.

The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to 
the American Cancer Society. A private family service will be held. The family 
will receive friends at home.
