Simpson, Sr. - Mr. S.M. Simpson, Sr., one of the best known citizens in Berkley, died yesterday morning about 5 o'clock in Hertford, N.C., where he had gone several days ago to attend to some business. He had been in Hertford but a few days when his wife was telegraphed to, informing her of his sudden serious illness. She went to him immediately and everything possible was done to prolong his life, but without avail, and he passed quietly away at the time mentioned. Mr. Simpson was a native of Canada, but has lived in Berkley for many years. He left home in robust health and looked as though he would live a number of years. He was a man of many friends, of unfailing good nature, of brightest disposition, highly respected by all the people of Berkley, to nearly all of whom he was personally known. Mr. Simpson leaves a wife and seven children, all of whom are grown, and one of whom, Mr. S.M. Simpson, Jr., is a member of the Town Council. Mr. Simpson's remains will arrive this morning at 11 o'clock by the Norfolk and Southern railroad and the funeral will take place from his late residence this afternoon. Services will be held at St. Thomas' Church, of which Mr. Simpson was a member, at 5:30 o'clock. **************************************************************************** Funeral of Mr. Simpson - The funeral of Mr. Samuel Simpson was held from his late residence yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock.
