He was 85 years of age. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, August 4, at two o’clock at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1502 Link street. The rites will be conducted by the Rev. J. Q. A. Lassiter, pastor. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery here. Mr. Skinner’ body will be lie in state at the church from 11:00 a.m. Friday, until the time of the final rites. The deceased conducted a grocery store in the 1400 block of Reservoir avenue for 35 years until his retirement in 1933. Mr. Skinner was a son of American and Mrs. Lucy Skinner, and the widow of Mrs. Jetto Delk Skinner. He was a native of Edenton, NC. On coming to Norfolk he affiliated with Bethlehem Baptist Church, was a long and faithful member, and chairman of its deacon board. His death took place at a Campostella nursing home. Survivors include a son, Solomon K. Skinner, manager of Carney Park, a Norfolk public housing project; three brothers, Edward, George, and John Skinner, all of Norfolk; a granddaughter, Miss June Skinner; and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Gaynell Clanton Skinner, both Norfolk teachers. Mrs. and Miss Skinner were engaged in summer graduate study at New York University at the time of Mr. Skinner’s death. The made prompt plans to return to Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at the home of Solomon K. Skinner, 1013 E. Indian River Road. Chatman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
