Skinner, relict of Commodore Charles W. Skinner, U.S. Navy. Deceased was born in Norfolk, Va. On the 17 April 1804, and was a daughter of the Rev. James Whitehead and Clarissa Stark. Mr. Whitehead was in his day, rector of Christ Church, Norfolk and of Christ Church, Baltimore. Mrs. Skinner, in early youth, united herself with the Church and her parents, and continued steadfastly being therein of one heart and mind with her beloved husband, in that fellowship to the end, drawing closer and closer and leaning more unreservedly on the Savior as she advanced in her pilgrimage. Her life was beautiful and touching in its devotion to all around her. It is difficult to conceive a truer wife or a tenderer mother. She was ever ready to esteem others better than herself. She was very lenient in her judgments, and it was best in accordance with her loving nature to offend not in word or in deed against her fellows. Her heart was full of sweet humanity. High and low, rich and poor, were equal sharers in her sympathies. To all of every degree, she was genuinely kind and cordial, so that she lived and died lamented by all who knew her. After many months of feebleness, mercifully unattended, however, by any acute pain, her gentle spirit took its flight on a bright and peaceful Sabbath morning and the beautiful serenity which forthwith settled on her features seemed to add, for the comfort of the stricken hearts around, it’s made testimony to the assurance of a life of faith and love that she entered on the rest that remaineth for the people of God.
