Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark November 18, 1931

James Albert Slade, aged 83, died at his residence, 1833 Brambleton avenue, 
yesterday afternoon.  Mr. Slade had been in failing health for the past 
year, but was confined to his bed only since last Wednesday.  He was a 
native of Chesterfield County and had resided in Norfolk for 59 years.  Mr. 
Slade was a carpenter with the Norfolk & Western Railway for 56 years and 
was retired in 1921 as master carpenter and given a certificate for 
excellent service.
He was a consistent member of McKendree M.E. Church and also a member of 
Corinthian Lodge No. 266, A.F. & A.M.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. 
India Watt Slade, a native of Norfolk, whom he married 58 years ago; three 
daughters, Mrs. L.M. Barnes, Mrs. Lucille Addison, both of Norfolk and Mrs. 
J.H. Edwards, of Richmond; a son, H.L. Slade, of Norfolk; several 
grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The body was removed to the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home pending funeral 
arrangements.

SLADE, JAMES ALBERT - At his residence 1833 Brambleton avenue, Tuesday 
afternoon, November 17, 1931, at 3:23 o'clock, JAMES ALBERT SLADE, husband 
of Mrs. India Watt Slade, in the 84th year of his age.
Funeral services will be conducted at the above residence THIS (Thursday) 
AFTERNOON, November 19, 1931, at 3 o'clock.  Friends of the family invited 
to attend.  Burial in Elmwood Cemetery.
