Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Saturday, August 3, 1996 
Willie Mae Slade, of the 1200 block of Coltrane Drive, died July 31, 1996, in a
local hospital.

Mrs. Slade, a native of Norfolk, was a food service worker at Lakeview
Elementary School and the Portsmouth School System for 15 years. She was a
member of Rising Star Baptist Church and the American Bowling Council.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon Lee Slade Sr.; three daughters, Renee S.
Cuffee of Portsmouth, Sharon D. Scott of Davenport, Iowa, and Sheryl S. Smith of
Norfolk; two sons, Vernon Lee Slade Jr. of Portsmouth, Jermain Slade of
California; two sisters, Shirley Moyler and Joanne Horn; five brothers, Edward
Jr., Donald, Joseph, Clinton, and Roland Hall; eight grandchildren; and a
great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her parents.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Spencer Hoppaldt in
Rising Star Baptist Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Graves Funeral
Home is in charge. Friends may join the family at the residence.
