Norfolk - Funeral rites were conducted in First Calvary Baptist Church 
recently for Mrs. Hattie L. Slaughter, 38, of 977 Rugby Street who died 
recently in a local hospital. A native of Norfolk, she was the daughter of 
John J. Lewis Jr., and Mrs. Elizabeth Lewis.

She was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church and Delicados, Inc. She was 
a superintendent for the Department of Public Welfare 12 years. She was a 
graduate of Washington High School, and received her bachelor of science in 
political science from Florida A & M College in 1954, and attended Norfolk 
Division of the College of William and Mary(now Old Dominion University) and 
Richmond Professional Institute.

She is survived by a son, Aaron V. Slaughter and a sister, Miss Zelma E. 
Lewis, both of New York City.

Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, with Graves Funeral Home in charge.
