NORFOLK - Richard Paul Smith, 87, of 6151 Westwood Terrace, died Thursday in a 
hospital.
A native of Falls Village, Conn., he was the husband of Mrs. Emma K. Smith. He 
retired from the Post Office Department in 1958; was a former member of the 
board of directors of Norfolk Postal Credit Union; past president of the Ryan 
Club of Norfolk; a former Grand Knight of Council No. 367, Knights of Columbus; 
former Deputy of the State of Virginia, and was State Master of the Fourth 
Degree, Knights of Columbus. He was also a leader in Scouting in Tidewater for 
many years. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was a 
former Catholic Citizen of the Year.
A funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 
Newport Ave. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A Christian wake service 
will be said tonight at 7:30 in H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk. The family 
suggests memorials to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters or St. Mary’s 
Infants Home.
