Norfolk Virginian Pilot October 10, 1938

Joseph Smith, aged 68, son of the late Thomas P. and Mrs. Sally Warren Smith, 
died at his residence, 842 Norview Avenue, (8 1/2 stop) Willoughby Beach, 
yesterday afternoon at 3:50 o'clock. Mr. Smith was a native and lifelong 
resident of Norfolk, a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ocean View, and 
was employed by the City of Norfolk at the City Hall Avenue pumping station. He 
is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Charles Baker; six grandchildren; three 
brothers, Thomas P., W.J. and Russell C. Smith; a sister, Mrs. Rebecca J. Cook, 
and a number of nieces and nephews, all of Norfolk.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

SMITH, JOSEPH - At the residence, No. 842 Norview avenue (Eight and one-half 
Stop), Willoughby Beach, Sunday, October 9, 1938, at 3:50 o’clock p.m., JOSEPH, 
son of the late Thomas P. and Sally Warren Smith, in the 69th year of his age. 
Remains will be taken from the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, No. 1501 
Colonial avenue, to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ocean View, for services 
WEDNESDAY MORNING at 10 o’clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend. 
Interment, St. Mary’s Cemetery.
