Smith, of 1015 Maltby avenue, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gladys Field, 1313 Chapel street, on July 13, were held on July 15 at New Calvary Baptist Church. The pastor, Elder Samuel A. Wilson, officiated. He was assisted by the Rev. W. L. Hamilton, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church. Music was furnished by the church choir. Solos were by Luther Jones and Mrs. Lillian Dixon. The deceased is survived by a husband, James E. Smith; four sons, James M., Russell, Melvin Lee and Leroy Coleman; two daughters, Miss Edith Virginia Coleman and Mrs. Gladys Field; a brother, Thomas Drew; a sister, Mrs. Sidney Perry of Portsmouth, and several nieces and nephews. Attending the funeral from out of town was Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Drew of Chicago, IL. Mrs. Smith was a native of this city and the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sim Drew. She was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Hale Funeral Home was in charge.
