Smith, wife of Peter Smith, died yesterday afternoon at her home, 333 West Freemason Street. Although in bad health for several weeks her death came as a great shock to her many friends in this city. She was born in Funschal, Madeira, and besides her husband is survived by four sons, three daughters and two grandchildren. They are Messrs. Clarence J. Smith, Ernest B. Smith, Edmund Smith, Vincent Smith and Antonio J. Smith, Misses Mary M. Smith, Constance A. Smith and Rosa E. Smith, and Dorothy M. Smith and Martin Xavier Smith, children of the late Peter Xavier Smith. ****************************************************************************** SMITH - At the residence, No. 333 West Freemason Street, Sunday, April 6, 1913, at 4:27 o'clock p.m., MARY C.. wife of Peter Smith, in the 82nd year of her age. Funeral services at St. Mary's Catholic Church TUESDAY MORNING at 10:30 o'clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend. Interment private. Virginian Pilot and The Norfolk Landmark April 7, 1913 ******************************************************************************* The funeral of Mrs. Mary C. Smith, wife of Peter Smith, was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. yesterday and was numerously attended. Requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. John J. Doherty, pastor of the church. During the obsequies, Mrs. James Hughes sang, “Lead Kindly Light.” The following additional priests occupied seats in the sanctuary: Rev. E. J. Walsh of St. Mary’s, Rev. F. J. Lucke of St. Vincent’s hospital, Rev. Joseph Waring of St. Joseph’s Church, Rev. A. J Halblieb of Sacred Heart Church, Rev. J. A. Kelliher of the Italian Church, Rev. Hugh McKeefry of Richmond and Rev. J. C. McGurk, C.S.Sp., of Philadelphia. The casket was covered with a lovely pall of smilax and roses. The interment was in St. Mary’s cemetery. The following were the pall-bearers: F. W. McCullough, M. W. Talbot, V. Paul Ellis, B. McNally, Dr. P. St. L. Moncure, William Grandy, Hon. W. R. Mayo and James Smith.
