Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Thursday, December 12, 1991 
Dennis ``Sparky'' Smith, 81, of the 2900 block of Liberia Drive, a retired
longshoreman, died Dec. 10, 1991, in his home.

Mr. Smith was born in Surry County. He was a member of International
Longshoreman's Association, Local 1248, and had retired after 45 years. He was
the widower of Pinkie Smith.

Survivors include two daughters, Emma Smith and Geraldine Hilliard, and two
sons, Arlee Smith and David Smith, all of Norfolk; a sister, Lucille Dawson of
Surry County; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Pretlow & Sons Funeral Home,
Chesapeake, by the Rev. James Bazemore. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery .
