Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Saturday, November 23, 1991 
Ruth Whitley Smith of the 7000 block of Auburn Ave., a retired shirt presser,
died Nov. 21, 1991, in a hospital.

Mrs. Smith was born in Norfolk. She had retired from LeRoy's Laundry.

Survivors include a daughter, Vergie Brooks of Chesapeake; two sons, Phillip
Boone of Norfolk and Melvin Boone of Philadelphia; three sisters, Essie Gaines,
Ella Scott and Mable Palmer, and a brother, Oscar Whitley Jr., all of Norfolk;
eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at noon Tuesday at Riddick Funeral Service. Burial will be
in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral
home. Friends may join the family at 905 Craten Road.
