Norfolk Virginia Pilot Wednesday March 17, 1948
William Assip Smith, Sr., 62, husband of Ida Olivia Smith and son of the 
late Andrew J. and Lucy Smith, died at a Norfolk hospital Monday night at 
10:55 o'clock.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J.W. Trevanthan and 
Mrs. Lewis C. Severance; a son, William A. Smith, Jr.; a sister, Mrs. James 
E. McCoy, all of Norfolk; a brother, George C. Smith, of Richmond and five 
grandchildren.  Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Norfolk and had been in 
the employ of the transit system here for 41 years.  He was a member of the 
McKendree Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home 
Thursday at 2 p.m.  Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
